This is our second national information sharing and networking event for food co-ops, as well as organic buying groups and CSAs, and is being run by Sustain as part of Making Local Food Work in partnership with the Soil Association. This is a FREE event and a vegan lunch using local organic produce is being provided. We have a workshop especially dedicated to setting up food co-ops in universities - and Green Action Food Co-op at Leeds University and SOAS food co-op are already booked to attend - so it would be really good to have some other students food co-ops there and groups working with them. I have attached the agenda, flyer and booking form and some more information below. NB we are able to cover travel expenses for student volunteers - and there may be people from your area already driving to the event who can give you a lift . Also there may be yurts you can camp in overnight at Canalside CSA *Aims of the day* *:* The main aim of the day is to bring together community food initiatives from across the country to share information and explore new ideas. We have therefore devoted most of the day to smaller group workshops giving you the chance to ask specific questions of other similar food projects, such as veg box schemes, student run food co-ops or community supported bakeries; and also to discuss common issues you've encountered and how to resolve them. *Audience* *:* The day is open to food co-ops, organic buying groups, community supported agriculture schemes and other similar community food outlets, and is aimed at both existing projects and those just starting up. *Workshops* *:* As well as talking to similar initiatives we hope this event will provide you with the opportunity to learn about things you may not have thought about before, such as expanding the range of produce you sell, working more directly with local growers or supplying food via different locations like schools or workplaces. *Speakers:* Workshop speakers so far include Unicorn Grocery, Eco Works, South Birmingham Food Co-op, Green Action Food Co-op, The Veg Van and more... If you would like to share your experiences of running your food co-ops in one of our workshop slots please let us know. *Visit to Canalside Community Farm, Leamington Spa on Tuesday 19 October 2.00-5.00pm* For those arriving the day before the conference there is the option to join an afternoon visit to Canalside Community Farm, a CSA which is providing the vegetables for our lunch at the event. There will be a farm tour and talk, and an opportunity to see the vegetable growing and to meet the people involved. If you're interested in CSA structures or just in visiting a working farm then this is well worth attending. We will be organising free bus-taxis to and from the station in Leamington Spa at a specified time. *Evening networking opportunity 19 October* If you fancy supper in a local pub after your farm tour and the opportunity to meet other delegates, we'll be booking a table in a nearby pub, so let us know on the booking form if you want to join in? For those needing to stay over, we'll be sending out info on local B&Bs shortly. (Please note that you are responsible for your own accommodation and paying for pub meals). *To book please fill in the form attached and return to: goodfood at soilassociation.org * -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: Lobbyists are Villians. They've been *corrupting* the European Union and our futures for much too long, but we can stop them. A lot of the UK's regulations come from EU agreements. Corporations have been paying the EU (through Parliament and the Commission) to prevent passing progressive legislation on climate change and finance regulation. *You can help create awareness & stop these changes by voting for the Worst Lobbyist Awards 2010 . * After the financial crisis of 2008, various pro-democracy and economic reform groups have been trying to stop finance from getting out of control. However, due to the current political system, which basically allows companies to pay government to change/sway its opinion on these issues, these reforms have been STUCK, dead in the water. Progressive legislation on climate change have been blocked by corporate lobbyists, even if the company is showing a positive environmental image externally (greenwash). We must make this known. We must challenge those corporations. *Please VOTE for the Worst Lobbyist in the EU now. * Please *forward to your groups and your friends* & spread the word. We're gonna Clean Brussels up. With/just 2 weeks remaining/, the Great Power Race is already exceeding all our expectations. Thanks to your great work, there are now 685 clean energy and climate solutions projects completed or underway for the Race -- and increasing 50 per day now! From growing food on campus to showing films and educating fellow students, from reducing water campus water consumption to building new partnerships with community organizations you all are doing powerful and important work -- collectively having a real impact. We are writing today mainly to remind you that there are just 2 weeks left until the November 12th deadline for submitting project reports to earn points. The work won?t stop there, but this deadline is particularly important since the top scoring teams in each country will be reviewed by a panel of judges including Van Jones, Vandana Shiva, Wen Bo, and more who will select the overall winners. Those winning teams will be announced during the United Nations climate change negotiations in Cancun, Mexico (broadcast online) in early December, where we?ll be able to relay the news to your country?s delegations as well. *Visit **www.greatpowerrace.org* *to submit your projects or register new ones.* Now is the time to quicken your racing pace. A few campuses are out in the lead -- but seeing the list of how many projects are underway and not yet complete, we know this Race is far from over. And please remember to submit clear and comprehensive reports for your projects so that we can confirm all the good work you?re up to.
