Our generationhas to deal with it. If we don?t actfast enough by changingour policy, economy and society, it will cause enormous ecological, economical and social damage. Peoplein developing countries are hit first and hardest by climate change, even though it is the industrialised countries that are largely responsible for climate change. How can we stopglobal warming? What is Climate Justice? How can we achieve it? We would like to discussthese questions with experts from NGOs, affected people from the global South and policymakers. We, young climate activists, will exchangeexperiences in political mobilisation and action, askfor political action on climate change and take action. Message-ID: <4DA729CC.7040008@peopleandplanet.org> Hi All, You've all probably heard or met the amazing Danny Chivers - activist, poet - at Shared Planet or Climate Camp or online or elsewhere. He's currently doing a tour of the country and would like to know if any P&P groups would be interested in having him come along - please see his message below and get in touch with Danny asap if you want to book him - he's a busy man so grab him while you can. Bests, Louise ******************************************** Dear P&P Society, Are you looking for speakers and/or interesting workshops for your group? I may be able to help... I'm a climate change writer, researcher, activist and performance poet (you may have seen me perform at Shared Planet). I've been in the news recently as one of the six people whose trial collapsed in Nottingham earlier this month, following revelations about an undercover cop in Europe's environmental movements. My new book has also just hit the shops - "The No Nonsense Guide to Climate Change", published by New Internationalist ( http://www.newint.org/books/no-nonsense-guides/climate-change-2011 ). It's a friendly, jargon-free pocket-sized overview of the whole climate issue, including the latest science, solutions, history, politics, and activism, with a smattering of humour, unusual analogies and bits of verse. To promote the book, I'm charging around the country doing talks, workshops and poetry performances in as many different places as possible. I'm very happy to do this just for travel expenses, so long as I can also wave the book at people while I'm there! Here's a selection of the kind of things I can do - let me know if any of them would be good for your group, or would fit into any other events you're running: - "Some Good News for a (Climate) Change": A fun interactive session for up to 40 people, looking at the latest climate science and politics but with a focus on the positive. It is still possible to achieve climate justice, and this session will help you to work out what role you can play in making it happen! About 1.5 hours. - "Undercover and Over-The Top: How an undercover cop made my trial collapse". The strange tale of the power station, the court case and the secret policeman, and what it tells us about police repression of protest in the UK. About 1.5 hours, including time for Q&A - A set of eco-slam poetry! This could perhaps be a separate event/optional extra after the talk/workshop, or it could be a stand-alone thing in itself. Please do get in touch if any of this sounds at all interesting - I'm on dannychivers at riseup.net and 07963 566482. Thanks and all best wishes, Danny PS You can see some of my poetry videos here: "Shop a Scrounger", anti-cuts and corporate tax-dodging poem produced by Pete Speller and Zoe Broughton: http://vimeo.com/17295443 "Lifestyle Choice" live at the G20 protests in London: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQcGPcXpCYY&feature=related "A Modest Proposal" by Tenner Films, on location at Dungeness nuclear power station: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTqob1yIFwI&feature=related "Consumed", live from the 2010 Edinburgh Climate Camp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G-4XpRDO9I From alice.hemming at peopleandplanet.org Tue Apr 26 16:07:44 2011 From: alice.hemming at peopleandplanet.org (Alice Hemming) Date: Tue, 26 Apr 2011 10:07:44 -0500 (CDT) Subject: [Goinggreener] Grassroots Blog is re-launching Message-ID: <1303830464.v2.mailanyonewebmail-619704@fuseweb2f> Hey Just a quick update about People & Planet's blog.... What's this all about? We are re-launching the Grassroots blog and it will be better than ever! We are tidying up the layout and making it more accessible and easy to use. We are also turning it into the main channel for all our network news and communications and publicising it more widely...which is rather exciting. Good news is we will also be offering groups a chance to sign up for a shared account! What will I do? As a P&P blogger you will be on the frontline reporting on your group's activities and sharing your opinions and ideas. However, it doesnt just have to be about P&P...if you are interested in writing about your experience of student campaigning or articles about the subjects that you care about, we want to hear from you! Also if you publish a blog elsewhere we would love to be able to publish on the P&P site and get greater coverage for you! Do I need any experience? Nope! You dont need any prior experience and you dont have to commit to a a time schedule- you can just blog as and when you want. This is also a great way to get media/writing experience for your CV! Ok I'm convinced! How do I get one? Well, you can sign up for either a personal account to write as yourself or an account for your P&P group, which you can share and all contribute to. The create an account just reply to this email with your name, email address and the university/coolege/school or email it to jim.cranshaw at peoplenadplanet.org Happy blogging!
